The Public Health Microbiologist (Entry) requires a Bachelor's degree with a
concentration in Microbiology or one of the related life sciences and equivalent to six
months of training in microbiology in a public health laboratory.
The Public Health Microbiologist (Journey) requires a Bachelor's degree preferably in
biologiy or a closely related field and two years of public health microbiologist experience
that demonstrates the possession of and competency in requisite knowledge, skills, and
abilities.
Both positions require possession of a Public Health Microbiologist certificate issued by
the California Department of Public Health, Laboratory Field Services.
