JOB DESCRIPTION


The Nevada State Public Health Laboratory (NSPHL) Environmental Laboratory/Regulatory Compliance Manager oversees all aspects of the Environmental Laboratory, ensuring compliance with various regulations and supervising staff training and operations. They lead multiple laboratory sections including EPA Chemistry/Microbiology, CDC Wastewater, Chemical Terrorism, and FDA Food Radiochemistry labs. The position requires leadership in building Nevada's infrastructure for hazard surveillance and rapid response during environmental public health events. The Manager must secure grants for innovative testing methods and provide critical information to Nevada's environmental leadership regarding public health hazards. They are expected to develop novel testing approaches while managing a team of environmental and clinical chemists, and collaborate with NSPHL Directors. The Manager must integrate with statewide officials to enhance Nevada's environmental health infrastructure. Finally, they are responsible for presenting findings at various levels and providing training to public health partners and stakeholders. This position reports to the Nevada State Public Health Laboratory Director.


The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills including the ability to present to large groups of varied stakeholders, the ability to work within and manage a team effectively, and the ability to balance multiple priorities. Experience in and skill with project management, lab instrumentation (e.g. ICPMS, Gamma Spec), regulatory inspections, obtaining and managing grant funding, and quality assurance/quality control are critical to success in the role.


Required Qualifications


Master’s Degree and 3 years of related professional work experience


Relevant Experience: grant writing and administration; complex chemical instrumentation operations/troubleshooting; compliance, licensing and accreditation knowledge; and/or lab management and supervision
