CDPH VRDL
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission and strategic plan by performing work in the field of infectious diseases, including rapid detection of measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella viruses using real-time PCR, genetic sequencing, and serologic testing, and molecular testing for rickettsia, vaccinia virus, Ebola, and other pathogens of special concern. The Public Health Microbiologist II (PHM II) works under general direction with potentially infectious materials in a biosafety level two or three laboratory. Use of appropriate biosafety precautions, including personal protective equipment required as necessary, as well as standing or sitting for long periods of time in a laboratory environment.
The incumbent works under the general direction of the Public Health Microbiologist Supervisor (PHM Sup) in the Vaccine Preventable Diseases and Herpesvirus Section.
